TO GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE WE GO

This is the next trip report. After coming home from Denver, I left and went to Vermont to visit my mother, who as all know has been and still is in the hospital. It was a short visit but it included the first weekend of deer season. Those of you who have followed my ramblings over the past couple of years have read about deer season and the stories I have remembered from years gone bye. Andrew thought I should get a license and go hunting, he thought I could sit on his porch, but I really had no desire to hunt and it appears that many others fell the same, it didn't look like there were many hunters out in an area that has always been over run with them. Stew and Ted went but I really don't think their hearts were in it, Stew says the hills are getting steeper every year. Stew did shot a 7 point on Sunday, Ted said he could have shot it but let it go for Stew, it wasn't big enough for him. Not much of a deer story.

My main reason for going was to check on Mom, she had been having trouble with her foot and the doctors decided to remove her big toe, and then another but her circulation was such that it would not heal so they had to amputate her foot. She seems to be doing well in rehab. It is going to be a long and slow recovery but she appears to be getting stronger as time goes on. I don't know what they will do for her, but hopefully she will be home soon. This has been a tough summer for her, she had her first surgery in July and has been in and out since then. Like she says, she is a tough old bird. Her goal is to get feeling good enough to come to Florida this winter and I for one hope she makes it.

My last couple of weeks have been a bit busy, first a trip to Denver to see our new grandaugther, Abigail Howe Rogers, and visit Andrew and Family, after that a quick trip to Vermont to spend a few days with my mother. I hope to stay home for awhile?

This was my first trip to the mile high city and the state of Colorado and I can say it will not be my last. The Denver area is very nice and really different from any where I have been before. Being able to spend time with Andrew,Sarah, Britt, Anna and Abbie was really great, I (we) don't get to spend enough time with them. Andrew took us on a tour of his hotel, which of course is very nice, right in the middle of downtown Denver. The girls taught me about "cup stacking" but I don't think I would ever be very good at it. I was able to attend two of Anna's Soccer games, one with snow on the sidelines. I also spent time with the girls, drawing pictures and doing math puzzles

Nancy and I got to see some of Colorado, we visited Red Rocks, an area west of Denver with Red Rocks and wonderful views and a most famous Amphitheater at which anybody who is anybody in the music business has played. After that we went to Golden, Co. and as everyone knows is the home of Coors Beer, and yes we took the tour and had some "free" beer and had a lot of fun.

The next day we took a trip to Avon, which is the next town beyond Vail, what beautiful mountains and scenes there are on this trip. We spent the night at the Ritz Carlton at Bachelor Gulch which is on Beaver Creek Mountain, wow what a great place to stay, the ski lift is just outside the dining room.. No snow there, but they were skiing at Vail on what looked to man made snow. A couple other areas were open but still early for the good snow.

We really had a good time sightseeing and a great time spent with our family.
