Den's Days: May 2009

Another wet day in Florida, wow have we had rain. We went for about a month with no rain and now in the past week we have had more than 10" here. Our canal is full, the ponds on the golf course that they were mowing last week are now full, and everything is green. This is normal for this time of the year but we don't usually get it all at once.

I am home alone, Nancy is in Vermont, coming home tomorrow and returning to VT next week. She rode to Mass with a friend who was taking her husband to be buried and did not want to ride by herself. Nancy, being a good friend and never one to miss a chance to go to Vermont, went without must prodding. Of course that meant that she got to Tunbridge for the annual Memorial Day Parade, which is something we both enjoy. One of my first posts on this blog was about the Parade complete with pictures. When Nancy gets home she will have pics from this year and I will post them.

That is all for today, I have just found that I can use my desktop for my posts so maybe I will do a bit more. I thought I was without as Nancy took the lap top with her.... More later

Well, it's time to finish the vacation thing, I'm sure all are getting tired of this.

On Monday, Andrew took the day off to escort Nancy and I around the island. Nancy wanted to go up the Volcano(I can't spell its name) as I did not want to drive up there. So the three of us took off for the big trip, its about two hours from Andrew's house to the top of the Volcano, even though its only about 30 miles or so. The road gets a bit steep and you meet yourself coming back on some of the corners. At the top it was only about 45 degrees and very windy. It is something to see, the crater is 15 miles across and strange looking rock(lava) but a sight worth the trip. At the top it is 10,020 feet above sea level, and do I need to tell you I had a hard time breathing up there. They say that people who have heart problems should not go to high places as the air is thinner, believe me, it is and I did not feel good the rest of the day. I will not be going up mountains or Volcanoes any more. One thing they did say was that NASA used this area for training for astronauts because it is most like the surface of the moon, on earth. On the way down we stopped at a nice restaurant for lunch, very good and beautiful flower gardens, which Nancy really enjoyed. Next stop, a lavender farm, yep, a farm that raises , again interesting, a very pretty, Again Nancy really enjoyed this, oh, a gift shop full of everything you can think of made with lavender... From here it was a drive north through what is cowboy country, fun drive. Driving down the road we saw a house with a fence made of surf boards, a bit different, not sure who lived there, I guess an old surfer.... What a great day, and being able to spend a full day with Andrew, which meant a lot to both of us. Thanks Andrew.

Tuesday was rest and getting ready to make the trip home. Before going to the airport on Wednesday we met Andrew at the hotel for lunch. We ate at an outside restaurant overlooking the ocean. What a wonderful way to end our visit.
